Accommodation

Jobs in Mallorca with accommodation

Employer-provided accommodation is common in Mallorca during the season. What is normal, which questions to settle before you accept, and where the pitfalls are.

Housing is scarce in Mallorca and expensive in season. That is why many employers offer accommodation — in the hotel itself, in staff housing, or in a rented flat. For many seasonal workers that is the difference between «this works» and «this does not add up».

But provided accommodation is not always the same thing. The range runs from a free single room to a shared room whose rent is deducted from your wages.

The three usual arrangements

  • Provided free: the employer covers the cost. Common in hotels with their own staff house.
  • Against deduction: accommodation is provided and an amount is withheld from net pay. That amount belongs in the contract.
  • Arranged, not provided: the employer helps you look, but the tenancy is in your name. That is something else entirely — clarify which is meant.

What to settle before you accept

  1. 01Single or shared room? With how many people?
  2. 02How far is it from work, and how do you get there?
  3. 03What exactly does it cost, and is the amount in the contract?
  4. 04Are utilities and wifi included?
  5. 05Are meals provided, and are they free?
  6. 06What happens to the accommodation if the employment ends early?
  7. 07When must you move out when the contract runs out?

Deductions and the minimum wage

Statutory minimum wage 2026

€1,221 gross per month

across 14 payments, equal to €17,094 gross per year

Always weigh the accommodation deduction against the wage. An offer with a slightly lower wage and free accommodation can work out considerably better than a higher wage from which you have to pay for a flat in high season. Compare what is left at the end of the month, not the gross figure in the advert.

Check as well what the contract lists as payment in kind. Accommodation and meals can count as part of your remuneration and then affect the contribution base. If you are unsure, ask the employer how it appears on the payslip — a serious employer answers without hesitating.

When to look

Roles with accommodation are the first to be filled. If you need housing for the summer season, look between January and March. From May onwards mostly only roles without accommodation are left — and then you compete with tourism on the open housing market.

Is provided accommodation common in Mallorca?

In season yes, especially in hotels and hospitality and in areas with a tight housing market. Year-round roles offer it less often.

May the employer deduct accommodation from my wages?

A deduction is possible but must be agreed and transparent. Have the amount named before you accept and written into the contract.

What happens to the accommodation if I resign?

That depends on the contract. Which is exactly why you should settle the move-out period in writing beforehand — for both cases, resignation and dismissal.

Will I be sharing a room?

Often yes, particularly in staff houses. Ask specifically about occupancy, not just whether accommodation is provided.
