Gastronomy in Mallorca: who hires and when

Waiting staff, chefs, kitchen assistants and bartenders are the most sought-after roles in Mallorca. Restaurants in Palma and the coastal towns hire from February for the season; beach restaurants often only shortly before opening. Tips are a real part of income in hospitality and are named explicitly on Vokaro listings when they apply — as are meals during the shift.

What hospitality actually asks for

Listings differ less by job title than by three other things: which language is spoken with guests, whether the role runs for the season or year-round, and whether accommodation is included. Those three are fields on the listing here rather than prose — you see them in the list without opening a single description. Experience is often wanted, but some employers explicitly hire career changers; that too is its own field and not a sentence you have to hunt for.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need experience for a hospitality job in Mallorca?
For kitchen assistant, dishwasher and basic service work, often not — reliability counts for more than a CV. For chef, bartender and shift lead, experience is usually expected. Every Vokaro listing states how many years are required; where none are, it says explicitly that applicants without experience are welcome.
Does my contract end when the venue closes for winter?
Not necessarily. Seasonal work on Mallorca usually runs on a fijo discontinuo contract, which is a permanent contract that merely lies dormant between seasons. Rights follow from that which many people do not know about — being called back for the next season, and seniority counting the whole duration of the contract rather than only the months worked. What applies in your case is in the contract and the relevant collective agreement.
